Red abstract (Menabilly) by Jake Attree

In Jake's own words:

"The most abstract piece in this collection is “Red Abstract (Menabilly) based on drawings made in Menabilly in Cornwall, it complements and extends a whole series of paintings developed over a long time made on visits to the coast of Northumberland. 

These paintings demonstrate my firmly held belief that the subject is no more than a pretext, that is, to make a painting, oil pastel or whatever the artist chooses; for me, it is essential, however, that that pretext is based on some empirical experience, something experienced and observed, in my case, always through drawing for it to have true validity."
